Dr. Sreekumar received his Ph.D from Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam, Kerala in 1989 in the area of Polymer Chemistry. He had worked as  Lecturer and Reader in the Department of Chemistry, Kerala University from1989 to 1999. In 1999, he moved to Cochin University of Science and Technology to take up the assignment as Reader in Catalysis at the Department of Applied Chemistry, CUSAT. He has been a visiting scientist at the HEDM laboratory, NUS and EMRC, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore. He was a member of the Senate and Academic Council of CUSAT and represents the Board of Studies of several Universities and Institutes. He is a member of the Society for Polymer Science, India and High Energy Materials Society of India..

His major fields of research include:
Polymer supported reagents and catalysts
Dendrimer based organocatalysts
Modified clay supported transition metal complexes as
        heterogeneous catalysts                   
Solid phase organic synthesis – peptide synthesis
Photochemistry and Photophysics of  synthetic polymers
Polymers for holographic applications - Data storage 
Polymers for optical lithography –Micro and Stereo lithography 
Polymers for optoelectronics and photonics – photovoltaic devices
Conjugated Functional polymers - Optical limiting studies
Chemosensors - Amplified quenching of fluorescence
Polymeric NLO materials- Computational studies.
Quantum Chemical calculations – DFT and Ab initio calculations.
High energy density materials –polyphosphazenes, polyoxetanes and         polyoxeranes as energetic binders

Twenty five years of teaching experience in Organic Chemistry/ Polymer
Chemistry/Theoretical Chemistry/ Catalysis at post-graduate level at University of Kerala, Thiruvananthapuram (1989 - 1999), India and at Cochin University of Science and Technology (1999 onwards), India.
